This is an idea, not a feature. We are sharing it early because it will be better with your help.
The idea
You have put ten things in your order, assigned the money, said how the government is doing now, and said what you think. Then your real ballot arrives with measures on it: a school bond, a transit tax, a change to how district maps are drawn.
What if, with a single click, you could see each measure on your current ballot set beside your own answers?
- Issues only, never people. It would cover ballot measures. It would never cover candidates.
- No advice. The system would not tell you how to vote. It would show your own preferences next to each measure, in your own words, and show which of your answers it used.
- You decide every line. Nothing would be filled in for you without your say.
“Make this my official vote”
If what you see matches what you want, you could press Make this my official vote. That would start a different path, separate from everything else here. It would walk you to your official way to vote: your registration, your ballot, and your deadlines, through your official election office. Your choices would go with you as your own notes. Nothing here would ever cast a vote for you.
What My Vote Forward can and cannot do here
- It can show your own answers beside the measures on your ballot.
- It cannot recommend a choice, rank a measure, or say anything about a candidate.
- It cannot cast a vote. Only your official election process does that.
Unresolved questions
- Matching. How should a measure be matched to your answers so that the match is plain to see and easy to check?
- Mixed feelings. Your answers might point both ways on one measure. How should that look?
- Wording. Ballot language is hard to read. How do we show the official text and a plain summary without the summary taking a side?
- Your notes. What is the easiest way to take your choices with you to the official ballot?
